The National Council for Scientific Research (CNRS-L) was established in1962 . The CNRS is a central science policy-making public institution under the authority of the Prime Minister. It is granted administrative and financial autonomy.

In addition to a national scholarship program at the graduate level, CNRS-L runs a Grant Research Program which aims at financing researchers and professors in universities and research centers in Lebanon. CNRS-L funds around 150 projects in Lebanon every year in various fields.

For the past fifteen years, CNRS has been involved in the LIRA program (Lebanese Industrial Research Achievement), aiming at encouraging engineering students in all Lebanese universities to show innovative ideas in their final year projects and participate in the yearly exhibition organized by LIRA along with the ministry of industry and industrialists in Lebanon.

CNRS will play a major role in the IDEAL project in:

  • linking all research institutions in Lebanon who can benefit from the project and the training ,
  • co-organizing training sessions and
  • serving as the governmental body that issues official certificates related to the  research administration certification program of the project
